Airfares to many domestic US destinations as well as many international destinations rose steeply in 2012 with June being the month with the costliest airfares, according to data released by a travel website.
The data released by Kayak found that airfares from North America to Lima increased by 33 percent, fares to London rose by 30 percent and airfares to Madrid, Munich and Sydney increased by 28 percent. Airfare to Paris, Beijing and Hong Kong increased by 25 percent in 2012.
The data also showed that London was the top destination for North American travelers and was followed by San Juan, Cancun, Paris and Rome.
Inside the US, Las Vegas – followed by New York, Los Angeles, Orlando and San Francisco – was the most popular destination.
February and March were found to be the cheapest months for international air travel while June was the priciest.
