American Airlines and US Airways are seeking the approval of the European Union for their upcoming merger, according to media reports.
The 27-member European Union is expected to rule on the antitrust approval for the merger by July 23. It may clear the merger without asking for any concessions, extend the investigation into the merger by another 10 days or even launch an extended investigation that may last three months.
The merger of American Airlines and US Airways will create the world’s largest airline by passenger numbers. The merger is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of this year.
