The Air France-KLM group has announced a contract for the purchase of 25 upcoming Airbus A350-900 aircraft as well as an option for the purchase of an additional 25 similar aircraft.
Airbus A350, which recently successfully completed its maiden flight, is a long-range wide-body airliner that offers excellent fuel efficiency and comfort, making it a serious competitor to Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft is expected to enter into service next year.
The Air France-KLM group operates a fleet of about 190 Airbus aircraft including eight A380s, 31 A330s, 13 A340s, 25 A321s, 54 A320s, 41 A319s and 18 A318s. With the latest order of the A350s, Air France-KLM will become one of the few airlines to operate every member of the Airbus aircraft family.
