Air New Zealand introduced 14 check-in kiosks at Australia’s Melbourne Airport on May 23, 2013 for its passengers traveling to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
Air NZ passengers can scan their machine readable passports at the kiosk and are then issued boarding passes and bag tags. The entire process takes around 90 seconds.
Passengers with check-in luggage can drop it at the Bag Drop area after having staff verify their identity.
Nearly 80 percent of Air NZ customers have opted to use the check-in kiosks at Melbourne Airport in the short time since the kiosks were launched.
Air New Zealand also offers check-in kiosks for flights between New Zealand and Australia as well as between NZ/Australia and the Pacific Islands at Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Sydney airports.
