Lower Prices on Flights Australia to New Zealand
Air New Zealand will lower its pricing on flights from Australia to New Zealand with a new program designed to improve service on its trans-Tasman and Pacific Island routes. The program, to be released later this year, will stress competitive pricing, an improved airport experience and increased ways to purchase airline tickets.
Despite increased competition from Pacific Blue’s new service for cheap flights from Australia to New Zealand, Air New Zealand plans to maintain its market share of the 5.8 million passengers who fly this route annually. Currently, the airline offers 280 flights from Australia to New Zealand each week.
The new program will include a price reduction in Air New Zealand’s lead-in fares for this route; new kiosks and a streamlined airport check-in process to reduce the airport wait time by 45 minutes; standardizing its Airbus A320 aircraft to only one class with 171 seats; and introducing a new way in which airplane tickets will be sold.

Fares through the program will be available for flights to and from Christchurch on April 29 for travel beginning in late August; the new program will be available system-wide in early September for flights beginning in late November.
For international travelers who plan to visit both Australia and New Zealand on their vacations, the lower pricing for the Australia to New Zealand flights will provide savings when purchasing their international airfares. And if you already have your airfare to Australia for travel later this year, you’ll be able to save on adding a flight from Australia to New Zealand by waiting for Air New Zealand’s new program to go into effect.
