Latest Fare Hike Finds Support

The fourth attempted US domestic airfare hike of the year, aimed at last-minute (within 7 days of departure) bookings by business travelers, may succeed as it has received wider support among the airlines. Previous three attempts to raise domestic airfares, two initiated by United in January and one initiated by Delta last week – failed as other airlines did not match the increased fares.

This time, however, United, American, US Airways, JetBlue and Southwest have matched the fare hike initiated by Delta and the $4-$10 per roundtrip hike is expected to succeed.
