Southwest Airlines acquired AirTran Airways in May 2011 and inherited the company’s significant Atlanta operations. However, this did not translate to better revenue and feeding of Southwest’s network by AirTran’s huge flight system as technical difficulties prevented a codeshare deal between the two airlines.
Southwest’s upcoming codeshare arrangement with AirTran in “the first part of 2013″ is expected to change this with the AirTran network complementing the bigger airline’s operations.
