Airline Tickets to China

American Airlines joins the rush to offer airline tickets to China on April 26 when it begins daily non-stop flights to Beijing from Chicago.  This route will be flown on widebody Boeing 777 aircraft with first, business, and economy class service.

American’s flights will depart Chicago at 11:25 am, arriving at 1:55 pm on the following day.  Return flights will depart Beijing at 4:50 pm and arrive back in Chicago at 4:40 pm the same day.

The new Beijing flight complements American’s existing non-stop daily flights from Chicago to Shanghai, which began in April 2006.   The new non-stop service to Beijing has been pending since the US Department of Transportation awarded this route to American in September 2007. Last year’s economic downturn and adverse market conditions for airlines caused American to delay the launch of the new route.

United also flies from its  Chicago hub to Beijing, in addition to scheduled service from San Francisco to Guangzhou and Washington, DC to Beijing.

Delta will begin non-stop service 5 days each week from Seattle to Beijing on June 4.  Delta currently flies to Beijing from Atlanta; from Los Angeles to uangzhou and Shanghai; from San Francisco to Beijing; and from New York to Shanghai. The existing flights are all one-stop which increases the total flight time to much more than the non-stop Seattle flight, which is projected to be only 11 1/2 hours.
