Jumping on the additional fees and charges bandwagon, American Airlines is introducing an economy class seat with more legroom. Of course, this seat will be available for an extra cost. The new seat class, named Main Cabin Extra, will have 4-6 inches of extra legroom and priority boarding privileges. The extra cost will be $8-$118 depending on the flight’s duration. Main Cabin Extra seating will be located in the front portion of the main cabin, allowing easier boarding and egress.
AA’s Executive Platinum and Platinum members as well as passengers booking a full-fare economy ticket will get complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra.
The new seats will be also available on the airline’s upcoming Boeing 737-800 jets and are expected to be available on most of the AA fleet by the end of 2013.
