Air Canada Plans New Leisure Unit

Air Canada is planning to form a new subsidiary by combining its tour business, Air Canada Vacations, with the new airline it is launching next year. Air Canada president and CEO Calin Rovinescu said in a statement that the creation of the leisure group will benefit the new low-cost carrier with the strong brand reputation of Air Canada Vacations and allow it to utilize its marketing and distribution network.

Air Canada also announced that the new low-cost airline will start service in June 2013 with two Boeing 767-300 ER and two Airbus A319 aircraft and fly to destinations in Europe and the Caribbean.
