Flyglobespan’s Cheap Airplane Flights Are No More

If you purchased cheap airplane flights on Edinburgh-based Globespan Airways – operating as Flyglobespan – for travel to or around Europe, your flight plans were abruptly canceled last night when the company ceased operation.

The collapse of Scotland’s largest airline has left thousands of travelers stranded – current estimates are that over 4,000 travelers are stranded with an additional 117,000 travelers with future flights booked – and 800 employees out of work.  Those who have traveled to their destinations will not have flights to return home.

Low cost carriers Ryanair and easyJet are offering cheap airplane “rescue” flights to travelers with Flyglobespan tickets.

Founded in 1970, the airline had been negotiating a funding arrangement through Halcyon Investments.  When the financing deal did not materialize, Globespan was forced to cease operations.

There are very few options for travelers to recoup the money spent for their Globespan cheap international airfare.  Some may be able to quickly file a claim through their credit card company; others may be protected with travel insurance.
