Alaska Airlines Adds Airport Power Outlets

Something for free from an airline?

Alaska Airlines is adding hundreds of electric power outlets at its airport hubs across the United States. The airline has already added 200 power outlets (one 120-volt socket + 2 USB ports) in Anchorage, Portland and Seattle. It also offers increased power outlets at Sacramento, San Francisco and San Jose airports and at the new Terminal 6 at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Fortunately the RyanAir-mentality has not reached extremes among airline management in the United States – otherwise, we might see the additional power boxes tied to a coin-operated mechanism. From our recent experiences in airports, outlets for charging tablets, cellphones and laptops are always in short supply. It’s good to see an airline make an improvement to benefit its customers – and not include a fee.

Alaska also recently launched a flight-status service that allows travelers to access flight status information including arrival/departure times and gate information by texting their flight number to 252752 (Alaska).
