Southwest charges just $50 for unaccompanied minors

Flying with very young children has its own peculiar complexities. Usually, foreign airlines provide better on-board and airport amenities including toys, baby-formula and diapers to families traveling with kids when compared to US airlines.

Some of the most kid-friendly international airlines are  Emirates for flights to the Middle East and further, Lufthansa and British Airways for Europe and Singapore Airlines for Asia.  Emirates has a special frequent flyer program for kids and may even offer cakes to the kids flying on their birthdays.

In the US, Southwest, Delta, jetBlue, Alaska and Virgin offer pre-boarding for families with children. Southwest also charges less ($50 each way) than any other major US airline (the typical charge is $100) for flying unaccompanied minors.
