Air travelers are advised to be vigilant as their luggage is weighed at the airport as the readings may not always be accurate. A recent inspection by the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures at Phoenix area airports found that almost one in four scales was inaccurate. The inspections at Sky Harbor, Tucson International and Phoenix Mesa Gateway airports found technical irregularities as well as failure to comply with state regulations.
The department’s officials advised passengers to make sure that the airline’s scale resets to zero and to request re-weighing for suspiciously higher weight readings.
