Airlines are constantly adopting innovative practices to retain a competitive edge over rivals and maximize their revenue opportunities.
Greater in-flight connectivity and on-board WiFi is perhaps the most visible and major cabin-experience trend that is expected to continue in the future. More and more airlines are also offering direct in-flight entertainment (IFE) content streaming to their passengers’ own devices.
Airline partnerships with equipment suppliers including IFE suppliers are expected to increase as carriers try to differentiate their services from others. For example, American Airlines partners with Bose for in-cabin noise-canceling headphones; as a result, AAdvantage members also earn mileage points for buying Bose products.
Tablets issued by airlines for their cabin crews will continue to increase as they enable airlines to gather real-time passenger feedback and offer greater personalization of services such as in-flight meals. Some airlines such as KLM and Virgin America have also launched apps for greater customer feedback and better passenger/cabin-crew interactions.
