The US Department of Transportation (DOT) and US Customs and Border Protection have announced a partnership with Delta Airlines, JetBlue, Allegiant Air and North American Airlines to combat human trafficking.
Under the partnership, the airlines will train their employees to identify and recognize indicators of human trafficking on-board aircraft as well as on the ground.
The DOT and the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have developed a training program for airlines called the Blue Lightning Initiative. The program educates the airline employees in identifying potential indicators and victims of human trafficking.
The Blue Lightning Initiative provides US commercial airlines a voluntary mechanism to identify trafficking victims and notify federal authorities.
