Airport restaurants are traditionally known for offering limited choices with average quality food: images of a fast-food burger with cold fries or a pre-packaged several day old sandwich immediately come to mind.
While better options are usually available in the largest airports, a number of new restaurants are opening up at smaller airports across the US – and they are changing the stereotype by offering a wide selection of regional and decent dining options.
Some notable examples include Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina and La Tapenade Mediterranean Café at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport; Java Joint and Chew Street Hoagies (great cheesesteaks!) at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, and The Burger Joint and Chipotle at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
