Alitalia, the Italian flag carrier, will launch direct flights between Venice Marco Polo Airport and Tokyo in the summer 2014.
The airline is also planning to launch flights, through Air One, the low-cost subsidiary of the Alitalia Group, from Venice to the Israeli capital, Tel Aviv, in January 2014 and to Moscow beginning April 2014.
Alitalia announced expansion plans for its operations at the Venice Marco Polo Airport as part of its new Strategic Plan for 2013 -2016.
The Venice airport will remain one of the four hubs (the other three are Catani, Palermo, and Pisa) for Air One, while Alitalia will focus its expansion at its hubs at Rome Fiumicino Airport, Milan Malpensa and to a lesser degree, Venice.
Venice is one of the major operating airports of the Alitalia Group in Northeast Italy with Alitalia and Air One planning to operate over 220 weekly flights to/from the airport by next year.
