British Airways will install new denser seating on its Airbus aircraft short-haul fleet – Airbus A319s, A320s and A321s – in 2014.
The airline is planning to install slimline B/E Pinnacle seats in these aircraft, which are mostly used for flights within the UK and Europe.
The introduction of the slim seats, along with the removal of a washroom/wardrobe, will create the space for additional rows – and passengers – in the aircraft.
Even Business Class will be affected by this change. The new seats will reduce the seat pitch on its intra-Europe business class (Club Europe) seats to 30 inches from 34 inches at present.
British Airways primary short-haul competitors such as Lufthansa and easyJet either already use slimline seats or are installing them on their planes.
