US aerospace giant Boeing will be researching the use of waste cooking oil as jet fuel in partnership with the Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China (COMAC). The research will be conducted by the newly formed Boeing-COMAC Aviation Energy Conservation and Emissions Reductions Technology Center and will aim at identifying and removing impurities in waste cooking oil so that it can be used as fuel in aircraft. The research may have significant future application as about 29 million tons of cooking oil is used in China every year.
