Airline passengers commuting through Brisbane Airport increased by 4.6% with 21 million more commuters in the 2011-2012 financial year. This set a new record and was achieved despite the Qantas grounding and natural disasters.
The sudden uptick was due to the increase in seat capacity in which one million seats were added on domestic flights and 300,000 seats were added on international services.
The strong Australian Dollar, flights to the Rugby World Cup, the addition of new routes and the increased capacity to cater for the fly-in fly-out mining trade helped insure the strong results.
A busy 2013 is projected with capacity again increased.
