New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has officially opened the new terminal at Christchurch Airport.
The new $237 million terminal will replace the old domestic terminal and international check-in / baggage-handling infrastructure. Christchurch Airport is the country’s second largest airport and handles nearly six million passengers annually.
The airport’s CEO, Jim Boult, said that the new terminal building is receiving positive feedback from travelers, airlines and retail partners. He added that Christchurch Airport had been repeatedly ranked as one of the best airports in the region by quarterly Airport Service Quality surveys, even while it was still in construction.
