The three major airports in the Washington, D.C. region – Dulles International, Reagan National and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) – are adding new restaurants, shopping venues and airport facilities to meet the demand from international travelers.
BWI has added food outlets including Chipotle, Pinkberry and BGR: The Burger Joint. The airport is also undergoing a comprehensive multi-million dollar renovation to increase its passenger handling capacity. More shopping venues are being planned for Reagan National by moving airline operations to a new floor.
In 2012, Emirates, AeroMexico, Canada-based Porter Airlines and Etihad began flying into Dulles International Airport and Germany’s Condor Airlines began flying from BWI. Low-cost carrier AirTran and Iceland Air are scheduled to start operations to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) and Reykjavik in 2013 from BWI and Dulles International respectively.
