Delta Airlines has placed an order for 40 Airbus aircraft – its first order for Airbus aircraft in nearly 20 years. The order with Airbus comprises 30 A321ceo (current engine option) and 10 A330-300 aircraft according to Delta’s press release.
The deliveries for the A330s are scheduled to begin in 2015 while the first A321 is scheduled for delivery in 2016.
Delta currently operates 126 Airbus A320 family aircraft and 32 A330s as a consequence of its merger with Northwest Airlines.
All of Delta’s A321s on order will feature Sharklets, wingtip extensions that offer up to 4 percent fuel savings and also increase the range or payload capability of the aircraft.
Many of the A321s will be assembled at the new $600 million Airbus assembly line in Mobile, Alabama.
