US domestic economy class air travelers can expect the trends of improvement in in-flight entertainment options and decrease in personal space to continue in the new year. Airlines are introducing better IFE systems in new planes and retrofitting existing planes with better systems. WiFi is also expected to become more commonplace on domestic US flights.
However, legroom and space will continue to shrink. Recently, Southwest announced the addition of an extra row and the consequent reduction of legroom by one inch in its economy class. Most US carriers are also adding an extra seat to each row of the standard row configuration of their new aircraft.
