Europe’s second largest low-cost carrier, easyJet, launched support for smartphone-based mobile boarding passes at London’s Gatwick airport in the fall of 2013.
easyJet passengers will now be able to board their planes using mobile boarding passes through an easyJet app on their Android smartphones or iPhones.
The passes are stored offline (on the phone) after being downloaded and can therefore be accessed without incurring any roaming charges or requiring any network coverage at Gatwick Airport.
easyJet adopted the technology four months ago at six airports – London Stansted, London Southend, Manchester, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Nice. It now supports mobile passes at about 85 per cent of its covered destinations.
