The increasing economic pressures faced by the airlines has led to economy class becoming more and more packed with each passing year. Even previously “generous” airlines such as Virgin and Southwest are now limiting space in Economy. SouthWest has reduced economy seat-pitch from 32 inches to 31 inches and lessened the seat recline from three inches to two inches.
Similarly, Virgin Australia’s 737-800s now have 30-inch seat pitch, packing 180 seats in the economy – 12 more than economy class on the same aircraft of its Australian rival, Qantas.
