Edinburgh Airport (Scotland) plans to launch a £15 million (about $24 million) route development fund to attract new airlines and increase the number of destinations served through the airport as reported by Travel Weekly in the UK. The airport will unveil its strategy for utilizing the fund in the coming months.
Edinburgh Airport, which was recently acquired by Global Infrastructure Partners, has recently signed a number of new agreements with airlines. New routes are planned from the airport in the near future by Brussels Airlines, Air Canada and Virgin Atlantic. The airport, which currently handles 9.2 million passengers annually, will serve a record 130 routes beginning this summer.
