China and the United Arab Emirates have signed an agreement in September 2013 giving UAE-based airline Emirates traffic rights for additional flights to Hedong International Airport in Yinchuan In Western China.
The agreement will allow Emirates to operate four Dubai-Yinchuan-Zhengzhou flights every week.
Yinchuan is located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of China. It is one of China’s few predominantly Muslim majority regions and opens a connection between the region and the largely Muslim Middle East.
The 2 governments have called the agreement A Silk Road In The Sky, referring to the ancient trade routes that ran from the Middle East to China, according to the official press release.
