Abu Dhabi (UAE) based Etihad Airways, which in 2013 has been on an airline-stake buying spree across the world, has purchased a 49 percent stake in Serbian flag carrier, Jat Airways.
Etihad has also been awarded a 5 year management contract for the Serbian national airline under the terms of the agreement with the Serbian government.
It has also been announced that Jat Airways will be rebranded as Air Serbia with a new aircraft livery featuring the Serbian coat of arms and the country’s state colours on both sides.
Air Serbia will launch 4 flights a week between the Serbian capital, Belgrade and Etihad’s hub and UAE capital Abu Dhabi beginning in October 2013.
Etihad currently has minority stakes in German airline airberlin, Indian airline Jet Airways, Irish airline Aer Lingus, Virgin Australia and Air Seychelles.
