Abu Dhabi based airline Etihad has recently recorded the fastest growth among the three major Gulf carriers – Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways. The airline started with only two leased aircraft in 2003 and now operates 70 aircraft with over 100 on order for delivery over the next 10 years.
Etihad, which flew over 8 million passengers in 2012, is currently the smallest of the three Gulf carriers but is fast playing catch-up with multiple alliances and codeshare agreements around the world. The airline expanded its codeshare agreement with American Airlines in 2012 and is looking for new partnerships in South Asia and China in 2013.
