UAE based Etihad Airways began offering live broadcast from a number of news and sports channels on many of its wide-body aircraft on November 1, 2013.
The airline began the live service with BBC World News, BBC Arabic, euronews and Sport 24. Three channels – CNBC, Japan’s NHK World Premium and CNN – will be introduced later in November while Sky News Arabia will be introduced in the coming months.
The channels will be available in 21 Etihad Airways widebody aircraft by November 7 and in 37 widebody aircraft by the end of 2014.
The new sports channels are scheduled to broadcast the final three races of the Formula 1 season including the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 3 at Yas Marina Circuit (UAE), the US Grand Prix on November 17, and the Brazil Grand Prix on November 24.
In addition to the Formula 1 races, passengers will also be able to watch live top sporting action including the ATP World Tour Finals, English Premier League and German Bundesliga matches, and Euroleague Basketball in November.
The sports channels’ coverage in 2014 includes the Australian Open, French Open and US Open tennis championships, the Winter Olympics, the Masters from Augusta and Ryder Cup golf, and the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
