Many psychologists who treat people with aviophobia or fear of flying and those who have been able to overcome their fear of flying consider it to be a treatable condition.
Statistics show that nearly 80 percent of patients are cured of their aviophobia after treatment, which consists of a combination of cognitive and behavioral therapy.
The treatment programs gradually expose the patients to flying. Many of the programs use flight simulators or virtual reality programs. Patients are also put on airplanes on the ground and in the air with the counselors accompanying them.
