FCC Supports Electronic Devices On Flights

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has supported increased use of portable electronic devices during flights.

The FCC chairman, in late 2012, called for greater use of devices such as “tablets, e-readers, and other portable devices” in a letter to the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) administrator.

In August 2012, the FAA launched a study to explore the possibility of allowing greater electronic device use in flights. The study, however, excluded the possibility of allowing “voice communications.”

This may not necessarily be a bad thing as surveys indicate that a vast majority of air travelers and flight-crews are against in-flight phone calls.
