Fiji Airways has banned the transport of shark fins “from unsustainable and unverified sources” on its aircraft.
The airline announced in a June 2013 press release that it will only transport shark fins and other related products that have been sourced from “sustainable sources” and where “individual shark species are not threatened.”
The airline has also announced that it will work on an independently verifiable process to ensure the quality of the shark fin sources.
“We believe a ban on the shipment of unsustainably-sourced shark fins is the right thing to do, and have implemented this policy effective immediately,” said airline CEO Aubrey Swift.
Last week, Korean Air banned the transport of shark-fins on its cargo aircraft.
