Finnair has taken the delivery of the world’s first Airbus A321 aircraft equipped with vertical wingtip extensions or sharklets.
Finnair has a total of five A321s on order. The aircraft will replace Finnair’s existing fleet of 757s, making it an all Airbus operator.
Finnair currently operates a fleet of 40 Airbus aircraft including 25 A320 family aircraft and 15 A330s/A340s. It is the first airline to commit to the upcoming A350 XWBs with an order of 11 aircraft.
Sharklets increase the fuel-efficiency of an aircraft by 3-5 percent thereby reducing operating costs, extending range and reducing carbon emissions.
The A321 is the largest aircraft of the single aisle Airbus A320 family.
