Flights to Melbourne non-stop from Los Angeles on Qantas’ A380 aircraft resumed earlier this year. Qantas discontinued providing service from the US for air travel to Australia on the world’s largest airplanes to provide safety checks on all the Rolls-Royce engines.
Throughout the myriad difficulties Qantas had last year with the spacious A380 planes, its chief executive, Alan Joyce, was consistent with his message that passenger and crew safety was the primary concern. The decision to resume A380 flights from Los Angeles was reached only after the A380 aircraft passed extensive checking – with monitoring by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Australian regulators, and Qantas engineers. The planes will be reintroduced progressively on the Los Angeles to Australia routes.
