Frankfurt Airport plans to open its third terminal by 2020 to handle future passenger growth, according to German aviation website airliners.de.
Frankfurt Airport, the main hub of Lufthansa, has four runways and two large terminals at present. The airport handled 57.5 million passengers in 2012 and is designed to handle 65 million passengers.
Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, says that the planned Terminal 3 will handle 14 million passengers annually.
Construction of the new terminal, which will be located south of the current airport on land vacated due to the closure of the USAF base, will start in 2015.
