Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is the only airline to offer on-board immigration clearance and Indonesian visas on its select flights to Indonesia.
The Immigration On Board service was launched in May 2013 and is currently available on Garuda flights to Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali) from Sydney, Melbourne, Shanghai, Tokyo and Osaka.
The on-board immigration/visa services save precious time and allow passengers to avoid waiting in lines at immigration clearance and visa-on-arrival counters upon arrival at their destinations in Indonesia.
Travelers are issued visas for a $25 fee when they check-in for their Garuda flights at the departure airport. The airline accepts only cash payments and only the correct change.
During the flight, the international passengers complete immigration forms distributed by the cabin crew. Two Indonesian immigration officers process the forms, stamp the traveler’s visa on the plane itself, and issue a blue pass indicating pre-clearance.
Pass holders can then use a special “fast track” immigration lane at their destination airport in Indonesia.
