The International Air Transport Association (IATA), an airline industry body representing about 230 airlines around the world, proposes there will be minimal hassle at airports when passengers are screened for airplane security by 2020.
This goal will be achieved with the use of a combination of integrated, high-end screening technologies.
IATA has planned a phased worldwide introduction of advanced pre-screening, behavioral monitoring and scanning systems. The proposed security procedures will be able to eliminate taking off shoes, screening electronic devices – laptops, iPads and smartphones – separately, as well as lifting the ban on liquids and gels by 2017.
Successful tests of some of the new screening technologies have been conducted at many international airports to prepare for introducing the first set of improved security procedures by 2014.
