Hawaiian Airlines plans to add at least 16 long-range single-aisle aircraft by 2020 to complement its existing fleet of long-range twin-aisle aircraft. The airline has signed a deal with Airbus for the purchase of 16 Airbus 321neo aircraft for delivery between 2017 and 2020 with an option to purchase nine more aircraft in the future.
The Airbus A321neo, which is scheduled for launch in 2016, will seat about 190-passengers and have a range of about 4,200 miles. Hawaiian currently operates 25 wide-body long-range aircraft and 18 narrow-body aircraft.
Hawaiian plans to use the new planes for flights from Hawaii to the US west coast.
