Hawaiian Airlines has joined United Airlines in applying for the flight rights to Tokyo’s Haneda airport from the United States.
The slots will become available after American Airlines discontinues its flight route between New York’s JFK and Tokyo’s Haneda in December 2013. AA has stated that it is cancelling the flights due to unprofitably caused by schedule constraints at the airport.
Hawaiian has proposed a daily nonstop flight between Tokyo Haneda and the city of Kona on the “Big Island” of Hawaii using Airbus A330 aircraft.
United has already applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and plans to offer daily non-stop flights between San Francisco International Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport from mid next year.
