LATAM Airlines group, the Latin America’s largest airlines group, has announced that it will join the oneworld airline alliance.
LATAM consists of Chile-based LAN Airlines and Brazil-based TAM, as as well as their subsidiaries. TAM as well as its Peruvian subsidiary will leave the Star Alliance in early 2014 following the airline group’s decision to join oneworld.
LATAM’s oneworld membership is expected to be fully effective by the end of 2014. Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways and Srilankan Airlines also recently decided to join oneworld, which counts 13 major world airlines including AA, Qantas, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and JAL as its members.
