London Stansted Airport, the third largest airport serving London (Heathrow and Gatwick, respectively, are the largest London area airports) plans to launch a nearly $121 million terminal redevelopment project.
The project is designed to redesign the airport’s terminal building to meet the demands of 21st century air travel.
The redevelopment will make better use of the terminal’s existing space, add new security facilities and an enlarged departure lounge.
Stansted Airport operator Manchester Airport Group also plans to use research by psychologists to understand the points when passengers feel confused, stressed or relaxed while passing through the airport.
The research, in conjunction with future trends and passenger expectations in the future, will be used to improve the airport’s design and services.
