German carrier Lufthansa’s is expected to start a Boeing 747-8 service on the Frankfurt-Los Angeles route on December 10, 2012. The 747-8 aircraft is longer – by over 18 feet – than its predecessor, the Beoing 747-400, and can seat up to 362 passengers.
The aircraft offers 4 cabin classes –
- First Class – accommodating only 8 passengers in Lufthansa’s First Class Suites;
- Business Class – a total of 80 seats, all converting to lie-flat beds for sleeping. There are 2 Business Class cabins: the main deck accommodates 48 passengers in a 2-2-2 seating configuration; the upper deck Business Class cabin has 32 seats in a 2-2 configuration;
- Premium Economy – 32 recliner seats are located on the main deck in a 2-4-2 configuration;
- Economy – 244 standard seats in a 3-4-3 configuration.
Lufthansa also launched seasonal services on the Munich-Cape Town route and a number of domestic shuttle routes with the adoption of its winter timetable on October 28.
Hourly shuttle flights to the three major German cities of Hamburg, Munich and Berlin will operate from 6 am to 8 am.
