What a great idea for families! German airline Lufthansa has launched family check-in counters at the Munich Airport to make sure children feel comfortable and part of the flying experience.
The Family Check-in desks, located in the northern check-in area on the Departures Level in Terminal 2, have built-in steps that children can climb up to watch the check-in procedure, receive their boarding passes and – if they are carrying a teddy bear or other cuddly toy – a special “Best Friend” boarding pass for their friend.
Other features include monitors showing the Lufthansa mascots, Lu and Cosmo, and a family guide with tips and information for parents about children-friendly facilities, such as play areas and changing tables, at the airport.
The Family Check-in counters will be available at Lufthansa’a Frankfurt and Munich hubs.
While some airlines are segregating children from their prime seating areas and other airlines – including United, Delta, Frontier and American – are charging more to allow families to sit together on flights, Lufthansa initiates a family friendly approach to flying. Too bad the US domestic airlines don’t take the same approach.
