As part of its 2012 expansion strategy, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) revealed it is considering an additional Airbus A380 route to Australia.
The second city on MAS’s shortlist for A380s is Melbourne. Malaysia Airlines previously announced the super jumbo craft will be used on flights between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur beginning November 26, 2012.
This flight will connect to MAS’s flights from London to Kuala Lumpur and is designed to compete with Qantas’ London – Singapore – Sydney route.
Similar plans to upgrade to A380s are afoot for flights from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo and Beijing. To do this Malaysia Airlines has ordered 6 A380s with 4 coming 2012 and 2 in 2013.
