Melbourne Airport in Australia plans to introduce self-service check-in kiosks and self-service bag-drop units for all international passengers departing from the airport. Two self-service facilities were recently launched for Air New Zealand’s passengers traveling to New Zealand and South Pacific Islands from the airport.
The introduction of self-service check-in and bag-drop facilities is expected to reduce the time spent standing in line, improve the customer experience and reduce crowding, according to airport chief executive Chris Woodruff.
All 25 airlines operating from the airport will be able to offer the self-service options when the system becomes operational.
At present, 14 self-service check-in kiosks are operational at Melbourne Airport for Air New Zealand passengers.
