The FBI and Dutch Police are conducting criminal investigations into the presence of sewing needles in 5 sandwiches on Delta Air Lines’ flights from Amsterdam to Minneapolis/St Paul on July 15, 2012.
One passenger was injured after biting into his turkey sandwich and puncturing the roof of his mouth. Upon examining the source of the painful bite, he foundd a one inch eyeless needle between his bread.
After discovering the needles in the sandwiches, the meals were recalled and passengers were served pizza as an alternate lunch.
The Schiphol Airport catering company, Gate Gourmet, launched its own investigation in the matter and announced it will increase security at its facility.
