The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey plans to take over the operations at the Atlantic City International Airport this summer following the recent approval of the move by New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie.
At present, the Port Authority runs five airports – Newark Liberty International Airport, New York LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports, Stewart International Airport (Newburg, NY) and Teterboro Airport (Bergen County, NJ).
Currently, Spirit Airlines is the only carrier operating from Atlantic city airport and only 10 percent of the airport’s capacity is being utilized. State officials expect to attract more airlines and address over crowding at the airport through the takeover.
